Music is an important part of my life. It seems natural to me to share this passion with my clients during our session. I am often asked what is the music I am playing. It is typically a combination of sounds I have gathered during my travels. Each month, I will highlight a particular playlist. I hope you will enjoy. |

Jazz Inspiration: Leaves are changing colors. The rain is now a daily occurence. It is time for a little bit of Jazz. I have compiled a somewhat eclectic playist for our work together:
Nina Simone, the Colpix years a compilation of Nina Simone's greatest hits.
The Rough Guide to Manu Dibango It wouldn't be a 4 Hands playlist without some African influence. Master Saxophonist Manu Dibango in all his glory!
Kind of Blue from Miles Davis. The great album... No comments needed...

Indian Vibe: Indian music is probably as diverse as the sub-continent itself. From the Bollywood latest hits to the hyptnotic rhythm of tablas, I have always had a strange fascination for its different flavors. For our work together, I have combined two instrumental albums:
The Rough Guide to Ravi Shankar a compilation of some of the most representative work of arguably the most famous Indian musician outside of India.
Tabla Tarang: Melody on drums by Kamalesh Maitra. The master of the Indian tabla at the summit of his art. If you don't think drums can sing, think again.

Music from Cape Verde: Cape Verde is a group of islands off the west coast of Africa. It is a wonderfuly diverse place I had the opportunity to visit in the Winter of 2004. An former Portuguese colony, the musical tradition of the islands is a wonderful mix of Fado and Western African influences. Cape Verde's most famous musical ambassador to the world is probably Cesaria Evora. The playlist is a combination of three of her albums:
Rogamar by Cesaria Evora
Miss Perfumado by Cesaria Evora
Cafe Atlantico by Cesaria Evora

Entre Cada Palabra by Marta Gomez
Cantos de Agua Dulce by Marta Gomez
Solo Es Vivir by Marta Gomez

Music from Mali: The blues from Mali and the iconic sound of Ali Farka Toure is a playlist I go back to often. A combination of long drawn melodies and rhyhtmic sub-Saharan percussion transports me to this land of endless sky and rolling dessert hills. The playlist is a combination of three albums:
In the Heart of the Moon by Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate: two giants of Mali's musical scene coming together for a magical album.
Niafunke by Ali Farka Toure: the most traditional album of Toure, recorded in Niafunke, a small village on the edge of the Sahara.
Savane by Ali Farka Toure: Toure's last album. Amazing!
